The Sony Rewards Program is now targeting their devoted audience of gamers.

Sure, earning trophies from the games you play is satisfying and all, but after a while, it gets rather unexciting when you aren’t earning anything necessarily tangible for your hard work. PlayStation is completely changing the game now that they are adding a credit system based off of your trophies that gives you actual PSN credits to put towards a new game.

The Sony Rewards program isn’t a new feature, but if you use your PlayStation 4 primarily for gaming without taking part in renting movies or other activities, you likely weren’t even aware that it existed. However, the most recent update for the rewards program now lets you earn points based on how many trophies you have, and those points can then be converted into products or actual PSN currency that you can use.

It is worth noting that the credit system is in fact retroactive, but it can take around 5 business days to see the points credited to your account.

How many credits you’ll get ultimately depends on how many of each trophy type you have, but for those who rack up quite the collection, you should walk away with some pretty easy money. It is important to note that bronze trophies aren’t included, but silver and anything above is, and earn a different amount of points.

The trophy-to-credits conversion rates are as follows:

  • 100 Silver trophies – 100 points
  • 25 Gold trophies – 250 points
  • 10 Platinum trophies – 1000 points

If you’d like to see what you can redeem your points for, you can get started by linking your account here and tracking your trophies. Having 1000 points is enough to get you $10 in PlayStation Store credit though, so saving up your points can get you a brand new game, but you can also spend willy-nilly on microtransactions like loot boxes and the like.

Perhaps this doesn’t sound like the amazing deal you thought it would be when you read the headline. Keep in mind, however, Silver Trophies are a tiny bit easier to earn than you realize. Most games that exist have at least ten silver trophies available. If you got started now, you could probably rack up a couple hundred of them without a prohibitive amount of effort.

There are plenty of ways to earn points outside of trophies, so make sure you explore all your options to get as many as possible in addition to earning them by playing your favorite games.
